Curriculum
The long term aims of education are
memorably expressed in the Warnock Report
of 1978 which describes the goals of education
as follows:-
First to enlarge a child’s knowledge,
experience and imaginative understanding,
and thus his awareness of moral values and
capacity for enjoyment: and secondly, to
enable him to enter the world after formal
education is over as an active participant in
society and a responsible contributor to it,
capable of achieving as much independence
as possible
.’
These aims form the basis of the 1988
Education Reform Act which requires that all
pupils be provided with a common entitlement
through the National Curriculum, and that

they enjoy the same access to an identical
range of educational opportunity during their
years of compulsory schooling.
We believe that children learn best by
observing the world around them, both
natural and man-made and by recording their
observations with the best tools and materials
available. They learn to record and interpret
their findings and discoveries in speech,
pictures, writing, diagrams, movement and
to share their findings with others. They apply
and practice skills in a variety of circumstances.
